Does your mind suddenly become your biggest critic Does your mind suddenly become your biggest critic the moment your head hits the pillow?

You’re not alone.

Many people notice that as the day finally quiets down, old conversations, embarrassing moments, regrets, or self-critical thoughts suddenly come rushing in.

This doesn’t mean you’re choosing to overthink.

During the day, your attention is pulled in a hundred different directions. At night, when those distractions disappear, your brain has more space to process thoughts and emotions that were pushed aside.

The challenge is that the more you argue with those thoughts or try to make them go away, the more alert your brain can become, making it even harder to fall asleep.

💙 The goal isn’t to have a perfectly quiet mind. It’s to learn how to respond to these thoughts in a way that allows your brain to settle naturally.

If you’re looking for a healthier approach to sleep, check out my Sleep Calculator. Based on one to two weeks of sleep tracking, it creates a personalized sleep schedule using CBT-i principles to help you build stronger sleep drive and more consistent sleehp.

I get asked about these things all the time… and t I get asked about these things all the time… and they’re not what I’m most concerned about. 😴

If chamomile tea, reading a book, or taking a warm bath helps you unwind, keep doing it.

But for most people with chronic insomnia, those things aren’t the reason they’re struggling to sleep.

I’m much more interested in the patterns that actually influence sleep over time: your wake-up time, how much time you spend in bed, what you do when you can’t sleep, and whether bedtime has become associated with pressure or frustration. 🧠

Better sleep isn’t about creating the perfect bedtime routine.

If sleep has become a source of stress, CBT-i can help you focus on the patterns that actually matter. 💙

Do you wake up at exactly the same time every nigh Do you wake up at exactly the same time every night?

One of the most common questions I hear is, “Why do I always wake up at 3 or 4 a.m.?”

Many people assume something is wrong with them, but that’s rarely the case.

Your brain is incredibly good at learning patterns. If you’ve been waking around the same time for a while, it can begin expecting it. What often keeps the cycle going isn’t the awakening itself—it’s the pressure, frustration, and urgency that follows.

✨ Brief awakenings are normal.
✨ The goal isn’t perfect sleep.
✨ The goal is to respond differently when you wake up.

If middle-of-the-night awakenings have become a pattern, I’d love to help. Visit my website to learn more about sleep therapy. 💙

Falling asleep on the couch and then becoming WIDE Falling asleep on the couch and then becoming WIDE awake the second you get into bed? 😑

There may actually be a reason for that.

When you’ve spent enough nights lying in bed awake, worrying about sleep, checking the clock, or trying really hard to fall asleep, your brain can start associating your bed with being awake and alert.

So you’re sleepy on the couch…then you get into bed and suddenly 👀.

This conditioned response is one of the things we work on in CBT-i.
